Found a fix for flame shot not starting on start up in windows

Open aaazv opened this issue 2 years ago • 5 comments

Flameshot Version

The development build as linked below: https://flameshot.org/docs/installation/development-build/

Installation Type

Linux, MacOS, or Windows Package manager (apt, pacman, eopkg, choco, brew, ...)

Operating System type and version

windows 11 22h2

Description

I've been facing issues with forcing flameshot to start on startup. After days of working on that, finaly something worked for me which I'm sharing in hopes that it works for you too.

I'm on windows 11 22h2 by the way.

I'm not sure if I've taken any unnecessary step to fix this, but I'll tell them anyway in order to help you not lose any necessary step.

If it worked for you, like or comment so the other users make sure this is the right solution to avoid wasting their time.

Steps to reproduce

  1. go to the flameshot installation folder, right click on it, create a shortcut. As you can't add it to the main folder, it asks you to create it in desktop. Agree.
  2. Click: Win+R -> type: shell:startup -> then drag and drop the shortcut you created, in the startup windows.
  3. Disable the in-app "Launch on startup" option from the in-app configurations.
  4. Right click on the app shortcut you created which now is in startup folder
  5. Make sure the "Run this program as Administrator" option is off.
  6. Click on the change settings for all users
  7. Enable the "register this program for restart" and click ok.
  8. Make sure compatibility mode is off.
  9. Restart windows.
  10. Enjoy.

@aaazv I don't have Windows, but I asked a friend to go through your steps and validate the results (which was successful). I would like to add this to our documentation. Would you like to create a Pull Request on our website repo and add these steps yourself? You just need to add your instructions to /content/docs/guide/windows-help.md. This way you get the credit for your contribution :)

@mmahmoudian Salam dadash. I'm happy to read that. It was on my nerves that I couldn't make it to run in startup.

I'm not an expert. But went to the link you gave me and submitted the steps. Not sure if I did it correctly or not. Inform me if I did it right.

@aaazv I forgot to ask you about this, but did you manage to make the PR? I can assist you if you need.

@aaazv I forgot to ask you about this, but did you manage to make the PR? I can assist you if you need.

As I said, I'm a normal user who doesn't even know what PR is.

It'd better add these steps to your site troubleshoot below the "not auto starting" subject.

People are confused a lot.
