macOS flameshot distorts selection area on laptop display after a second monitor has been connected

Description

If a screenshot is taken (command + shift + x ) after a second screen (2k) has been attached to the MacBook, the selection area is distorted.

This is what it looks like when you attempt to take a screenshot, notice that 75% of the display is missing. (it has zoomed in to the top left)

This is the actual full display. (for the sake of comparison)

Workaround

Terminate the flameshot application service in Activity Monitor, and re-open flameshot (start a new process)

I noticed that it happens after connecting an external monitor. Or in case I was working with an external monitor, I get this problem after disconnecting the monitor and reconnecting it again
