Flameshot Wayland throws "Screenshot Aborted"

• Flameshot v12.1.0 (Debian 12.1.0-2build2)
• Compiled with Qt 5.15.12
• linux: 6.8.0-47-generic
• ubuntu: 24.04
• Wayland

Issue

The Flameshot program works fine when I boot in to Ubuntu under X. However, when I open it in Wayland, I get an error notification (shown below) every time I try to take a screenshot. This happens whether I use the print screen key on the keyboard, or if I try to take a screenshot using the Flameshot panel icon. Unfortunately, the dbus montitor doesn't capture any information when this error happens. If there are logs somewhere I would be happy to provide them. I couldn't find anything online about whether a log file exists or not.

Things that do work in Wayland

• From the panel icon
  • About window opens.
  • Configuration window opens and saves.
  • Upload history opens.
  • Capture launcher opens (but take new screenshot fails).
• If I run on Wayland using SUDO, everything works, but I shouldn't have to do that.

Another quirky situation

If I run pkill flameshot and then run flameshot from a terminal, I'm able to take screenshots but ONLY from the Flameshot panel icon. If I try to use the print screen button, I get the same old error notification.
