integration with update-alternatives

Hi I would like to use BLIS in combination with numpy. Can it be used as drop-in replacement for libblas?

Ubuntu has the update-alternative system to specify alternatives libraries, but it looks tricky to me. If so, it would be great if someone could add update-alternative instructions to the installation guide.
