Set default value of a new tree to private

When a new tree is created today, the default value for ‚Show the family tree‘ is ‚Show to visitors‘. Is it possible to change the default value to ‚Show to members‘ in future releases?

Perhaps explain why you think that is important? Personally it's not something I would want.

At the time of creation, the tree is still incomplete and the settings for data protection are not yet set.

The decision whether a tree is public or private should be made consciously.

I think the defaults are correct. The majority of trees will be public.

New trees are empty, so there is no danger of personal data being displayed. e.g. create tree, set privacy, import data

However there will be a short time when the new/empty tree will be visible, before it can be made private.

Maybe we need to add a public/private option when creating a new tree?

Sounds good.

In which case it would be useful to have a forum discussion about what everyone understands a "private tree" should be. For example, many might be used to the way ancestry.com defines it: image

Instead of „public/private“ the option selection can be „Show to visitors / Show to members“. It is the same option as in Privacy, except that it is defined directly when the tree is created, thus one level earlier.
