2.1.12 - Add MAR tag automatically when adding a partner

Open TheDutchJewel opened this issue 2 years ago • 9 comments

In webtrees 2.0.x, when adding a partner, a marriage was automatically added.

In webtrees 2.1.12 this no longer happens: afbeelding

I do not see an option in the preferences to enable this.

Would love to see this functionality returned.

This was changed in e3b1d37143ed8730bf541af29a936833f578b19c

IIRC, it was a request/discussion on the forum.

Is it possible to make this optional?

Suppose your new facts were BIRT, BAPM, DEAT, BURI.

Data from civil records will usually have BIRT and DEAT. Data from church records will usually have BAPM and BURI.

So, you'd need to until the ones you don't want - otherwise you would create erroneous BAPM and BURI events.

For family records, many users have both MARR and _NMR enabled. Surely better to tick the one you want, rather than untick the one you do not?

Suppose your new facts were BIRT, BAPM, DEAT, BURI.

That is not the question. The question only concerned a deviation from earlier versions where when a partner was added, the MARR was automatically enabled, not the other facts

Surely better to tick the one you want, rather than untick the one you do not?

I don't think so. When adding ancestors and descendants, 99 out of 100 families will be married (in my family tree, even more likely 999 out of 1000). It is much easier to uncheck that one time a family is not married than to have to check the box every time.

So just like in the previous versions. If necessary, with a configuration option.

If the only event you have set for new family records is MARR, then yes.

But if you also have _NMR, then you'd always need to untick one of the two boxes, otherwise your family will be both married and unmarried...

I have never used the _NMR tag in my family tree with more than 50,000 persons.

And it wasn't automatically enabled in earlier versions of webtrees either.

I do not like the need to have MARR or the _NMR tags if I do not know if the couple was married or not.

Working most of the time on 17th, 18th ... branches, i really would prefer marriage was clicked on when i do not have the date, place, act. More then 97 times out of 100, i'll not have to unclick it. Most of the editors i'm working with forget to click (not only because it always worked like that in earlier versions, new editors forget too and i mostly forget too). example : https://www.ghezibde.net/genealogie/tree/vanderlynden.ged/family/X155055/Joseph-RACKELBOOM-Isabelle-KESTEMAN

Or make it administrator configurable? Then the best of both worlds
