Search bar can be improved for better experience

Open nandini-r-m opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

🐞 Problem

The current search bar lacks clarity and filtering options, making it difficult for beginners to quickly find appropriate open-source projects based on their skills and interests. The placeholder text is vague, and because of the limited filter options, the overall user experience is reduced.

🎯 Goal

Improve the search functionality to help beginners discover suitable projects faster and more effectively by adding more guidance in the search bar and providing better filtering options (like languages, skill levels, and project types). This change will make it easier for new contributors to find projects that align with their interests and expertise.

💡 Possible solutions

  1. Reframe the Search Bar: Update the placeholder text to "Search for Projects or Tools" to give users clearer guidance on what they can search for.

  2. Enhance the Filter System:

  • Add filters for Languages (Python, JavaScript, etc.).

  • Add filters for Skill Level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced).

  • Add filters for Project Type (Backend, Documentation, Testing, etc.).
