The above example is actually based on Netty 5 which is still alpha. The API of Netty 4 is slightly different.

The Netty 4 work in finagle-core is in a good spot for finagle-websocket to start looking into this. It's been a long time since opening this, but would you be interested in getting updates or helping out?
