Bug: Application freezes on startup (when loading network drives)

Open kuramot6f opened this issue 3 months ago • 9 comments

Description

The application hangs on the initial launch after installation. There is only a non-interactive white screen, so I have to force quit it. Below are the bug report from Event Viewer and the history from the Security and Maintenance control panel, as there is no log file in the LocalState directory.

Does this still occur if you uninstall and reinstall Files?

yaira2 avatar Sep 29 '25 13:09 yaira2

Yes, the problem still persists after reinstallation.

Same here, I have no idea what's up with it, but it makes the app quite unusable if I have to wait 20-30 seconds for it every time. On a fast SSD btw.

I have the exact same issue, and generally always have with Files. Incredibly long initial freeze on any launch.

  • Do you have a lot of items in Recycle Bin?
  • Does this occur if you temporarily turn off your Anti Virus software?
  • Does this occur if you disconnect external drives and network drives?

yaira2 avatar Nov 04 '25 14:11 yaira2

My recycle bin only had a few gb of files in it, but disconnecting my network drive mapping seems to have fixed it...

me same, my recycle bin is empty and when I disconnect my network, problem seems to have fixed

I ended up with a few other things in the recycle bin and it lagged like hell starting up until I removed.

Thank you for confirming, we're looking into the issue with network drives slowing down startup.
