wifi icon doesn't show the wifi connection quality

the wifi icon is just ON/OFF we don't see how bad is the signal, with 3 colors it could be even better (red,yellow, green; or else for daltonians) usually i m near the router but in travel i can be far from the router and i am struggling for the update due to the weakness of the signal (on the device where the update is usually easy)
