[R.279.23.2] Firmware update

Open vojtechBohman opened this issue 2 years ago • 9 comments

In my case the internal firmware update does not work since the device was delivered to me, even though that the device was replaced with the new one. I try this feature every time and the results is same.

  • Connect to wifi
  • Go to Device firmware menu
  • Select branch with FW
  • Check for updates
    • Strato starts searching for updates and it disconnects from wifi (I see that in the router)
    • Nothing happens
  • Go back
  • Try once again
  • Dead device

Video with procedure: https://youtu.be/8sEUZ-w51Nc Crash: debug.log ram.txt

What am I doing wrong?

You are already running R.279.23.2 which is the latest firmware. Because you selected channel "devel" you are switching to a newer but instable development version D288. This is only recommended for experts and not for daily use. I would recommend, that you select "release" in channel.

If you want, you can try a manual update. Go to https://strato.skybean.eu/ and select "Strato Deep Dive". Is it written at the beginning of that document, what to do. Then use https://strato.skybean.eu/fw/release/R.279.23.2/ as update.

Thanks. I am doing that from the beginning. The question is not how to make it manually, but automatically.

@vojtechBohman in the Strato Deep Dive there's a hint to change a URL in a config file (see Update OTA chapter). Although you're not getting the "resource not found" error - did you check for the correct URL in the config file?

Cite: "If you get error message during OTA update “Resource not found” open config/device.cfg via text editor (wordpad, pspad, notepad++) and locate line server_url=... it should be server_url=https://strato.skybean.eu/update [...]"

In my config:

firmware=release
update_url=https://strato.skybean.eu/update
check_fw=F
dbg_serial=T
dbg_file=T
dbg_usb=F
dbg_esp_off=F
dbg_esp_wdt=T
dbg_esp_gdbstub=F
dbg_tasks=none
dbg_vario_tst=F
dbg_lvgl_info=F
dbg_fn_update=F
dbg_crash=T
dbg_crash_reporting=T
dbg_crash_url=https://strato.skybean.eu/metrics/crash

When I remove/rewrite the line update_url=https://strato.skybean.eu/update nothing changes.

@vojtechBohman there is noting wrong with your procedure. It looks like that the esp is crashing in the background. I have no idea why, and I do not know why it does not trigger Crash catcher. I can see the crash report you have created in the video in our system, but this diagnostic does not contain memory information from the crash, since it was made after reboot.

To provide more information please:

  • Clear debug.log
  • Try to download the firmware, (only once, the information will be lost after reboot)
  • Create diagnostic report
  • reboot or reconnect to wifi and let the strato send the report to me.

Its not possible.

  1. Clear debug.log
  2. Try to download the firmware, (only once, the information will be lost after reboot)
  3. Create diagnostic report Device froze in this state (I waited several minutes):

Same problem for me. I lost the chance to update via WiFi months ago.

From R279.23.2

Unable to update from OTA or manually to R279.23.3 (file in root on boot or from menu) (that is why I never was on R279.23.3)

For update to D292.0.0 : update only possible with file on root on boot ( OTA or manual update from menu got frozen in middle).

From D292.0.0 to D293.0.0 :

  • Unable to update from OTA ( got frozen in middle )
  • Update only possible with file on root on boot
