Unable to see the Strato on FLARM/FANET since FW 177
Unable to see the Strato on FLARM/FANET since FW 177
Maybe the FLARM key is expired, or a software bug changed this behaviour.
At my last flights, the Strato was not visible on e.g OGN. For some reasoin it was visible for like 5 min but then gone
Are you sure you were in range of a transmitting ground station/device with internet connection and forwarding turned on? Not being visible on OGN and Flarm/Fanet not working are very different things. How do you receive the signal? I'm in 177 and my ground station sees my device without problem.
Can you see solid white F+ icon on the top? You can look at the licence validity in FANET->settintgs
I can see: "FLARM expires xx.02.20211 in 1158050144 days". (After the fonts were changed in 177 I cannot see the day value, but I think there was 01 in previous versions). So what does this mean? Is it expired or not?
I am also curious if FLARM/FANET is actually working. I can see the "F+" in status bar, I cannot see my position in OGN. However I suppose I am not range of any FANET station. I thought FLARM and FANET are completely isolated systems. So expired FLARM license should not affect FANET functionality, right?
Could you please provide any FANET/FLARM documentation, so it is clear what is expected behaviour, how to check it is working or not and so on...
There is clearly a problem with the communication during the readout. This problem might also cause that module is not working correctly. We have not encouraged this behavior yet.
Can you try to disable and enable fanet then exit and enter the fanet settings. It's the expire value the same?
Fanet is different system and it does not depend on the FLARM licence. However I think that OGN is currently only using FLARM.
Yes there is always the F+ Icon visible in the Status bar.
I am sure, i was in Range of a OGN ground Station, as a friend was with me and he was visible. So the OGN Station must bei fine.
I disabled and enabled the FLARM and FANET to reload its settings.
But there is still the Same Date shown
Well that does look like a problem.
Did you also check directly on the device of your friend if it saw you?
With respect to the station; the strato has significantly worse range than the skytraxx with antennas. Been at the takeoff and the station 6-8km out did not log me, but all skytraxx devices around me (like 10-15). I was visible on the Skytraxx from the guy next to me though, so it worked, just much shorter range.
Ok, i dont know if he saw me... But the spot i was, is one of my well visited and i know from earlier flights (other firmware & few month ago) the Strato was definitly visible on the base station. Actually the last Date i was seen was 28.October. Since then no more data was received.
After enabling and disabling the FANET (even FLARM) the expire value stays the same. Actually today it just has changed to 1158050143...
Ok there is an problem with the fanet module firmware. I will push an update to refresh it to newest version soon.
I too have noticed that my Strato seems to not be reporting my info to OGN since 177, but it's not been easy to be sure if it's a fault with the instrument - without having the assistance of another flight instrument able to receive, or being in range of a ground station. Today I was very close to a ground station (Derbyshire and Lancashire Gliding Club). In the attached image my location appears because I am also using a phone app (XC Guide) to report my position to OGN via the internet. But although other aircraft are visible, my Strato was still not showing so I suspect a problem with the Strato.
Unlike my report above, yesterday's flight at the same location clearly showed my Strato position throughout.
