I can't speak for the developer here, but the codebase in 1.16.5 is VERY different from modern Minecraft, Nvidium is already a new mod, and this port moreso, so it would be an insane amount of work to port I would assume (not to mention the developer is seemingly choosing to focus on newer versions anyways)
