use other sources too

a lot of the books I want to add cannot be read from openlibrary.org, arent there other sources that could be used in addition to pull data?

I'd be interested in adding another source! I'm not sure what that would be though (ideally something free and open source)

However, in the meantime you can yourself add entries you want to openlibrary. I myself have an account and i add books and cover images to openlibrary when something i want is missing. It's a bit tedious but only if you are thorough

If you have alternative APIs i could use drop another comment 😇

One way to avoid using nonfoss alternatives is the ability to add books directly to OpenLibrary via its API. This will mean eventually with more users we will be contributing a lot of new books to Open Library!

Another API I know of is inventaire, whose data is under CC0 if I understand correctly. Looks like you can query something like "https://inventaire.io/api/entities?action=by-uris&uris=isbn:", see https://api.invertaire.io
