Feature Request: onclick handler

Use Case: Someone clicks the image and/or caption ... I want the image to open in a new tab

I was looking for this, too! I would like to trigger some action on a click on an overlay icon. This would be a very useful api feature to add several actions, like e.g. "share image" or "do whatever".

Do you think such a feature is interesting, too?
