Sponsoring UX

Open voxik opened this issue 3 years ago • 10 comments

I have tried to sponsor mspacek into packager group and here is the feedback on the process:

  1. I had a bit hard time to find how to actually do this, because on the group page, there is ~160 sponsors, but the list of members with the field to add somebody into the group is well hidden bellow the sponsors on the beginning of the members list, but it is not obvious there should be something like this. I had to take a look into different group with less members to get the picture. I am not sure if the current split into sponsors and members is useful. Shouldn't be the sponsors filterable instead?

  2. Trying to add mspacek, I think the first lookup was not successful. I'm not really sure. I't be probably better if the successful search displayed some detail popup with bit '+' or something.

  3. After sponsoring mspacek is still not listed among group members. I am not really sure if this is some caching issue, or if it needs logout/login. Looking into user details page, there is listed the group membership, so it was probably successful, but the current situation is a bit confusing.

BTW sorry if these should have been separate tickets, but I guess you'll tell me soon ;)

Just FTR, the current packagers group is ~11 pages of information, so it is really easy to scroll through the page without even noticing there is also the Members section with the search box.

I also see that group owners/sponsors now need to file a ticket with Fedora Infrastructure to add more sponsors. While this is doable, I think owners/sponsors should be able to do this themselves without adding to the infrastructure team's rather busy backlog?

To pile on: what about removals? Sponsors are supposed to remove members sometimes.

When you're a sponsor of a group, you should see a red trash icon next to each member's name. This will remove the member from the group.

A question here too for people that regularly add members:

Are there cases where you might regulary add many (10+) users to be members all at one time?

i'd call this a different issue -- are you able to file a new issue for this one please?

just trying to keep this ticket on improving the adding members workflow.

It's rare for me to add so many members at once in our groups (packager/wikiedit/fedora-join/neuro-sig). It's generally limited to a few, 2--3.

Sure. Will do this now.

I've never added more than one person at a time.

Only when I migrated one group members to another group, which only happened once for me.
