Branding: Logo and Colour scheme
Hey everyone!
For the new website and association to happen, we need to define some sort of branding for Feather. Since this should be a community effort, here are my first thoughts/mind map of how I reasoned about the logo and colour scheme.
Inspartion for this issue came from iced.

Colour
We need to define: One main colour - 3 shades One "accent" color - 3 shades One shade of light colour One shade of dark colour
I think the main colour should be light as a feather.
Suggestion by Kitsune
I guess an actual feather should be part of the logo. Also, I miss a warmer color in the color scheme suggested by Kitsune.
We don't necessarily need a warmer colour. Especially if we have an array of colder colours. I feel like maybe we should use more vibrant colours.
Well, warmer colors are usually more vibrant 😃. I would propose a light salmon color.

Oh I like those! I'll try drafting up a temporary logo with some different colour schemes and post them here. Just to get a feel for what works and what doesn't.
Great! 😄
We settled on the following colour palette (for now!)

Some of the logos we came up with using this palette:
These logo designs are by no means final. I'm simply exploring some concepts to get a better idea of what works and what doesn't!
Great color scheme, bad font imo. The inner curving of every letter is weird.
Would suggest something like Poppins (OFL):
Or more Apple like with 'Inter' (OFL):
IBM Plex Sans (OFL) could do too.
Those look good! I'm currently experimenting more with the actual shape of the logo, but when I get to font I'll use one of those.

Here's a quick mockup I did of what the logo shape could look like. Could someone let me know if this is a good direction to take the branding?
I really like the approach you've taking @torvim. I actually forgot to post some mockups made by @YukumoHunter:
We discussed trying to incorporate something related to both Minecraft and Rust, and I think that's a really GOOD idea! It just needs to be executed well.
@torvim mentioned that the stockfish logo does a really good job at this, and I agree:
You can clearly see that the logo has something to do with chess and it nicely incorporates the actual stockfish.
Maybe we can somehow incorporate the Minecraft "grass block" into the background of the logo you made @torvim?
Maybe we can somehow incorporate the Minecraft "grass block" into the background of the logo you made @torvim?
That's a really good idea! What do you think about it @torvim?
@PauMAVA I think that having one idea is probably the best for recognisability. I'm looking at a version of @OxKitsune's idea at the moment.
Without colour
I feel like the feather on that logo should be a bit more centred, the proportions don't look right to me. Or make the shaft shorter. (Look into golden ratio maybe? I heard that's design magic)
I feel the need to mention that I'm not a designer and this is only a hobby. I'll work on it some more today when I get time.
We appreciate all the help we can get =)
We need a logo/banner with the aspect ratio 320x132
should work well on a white background.
It doesn't quite work but I thought it was an interesting idea:
