Improve installation documentation

Open steveyken opened this issue 9 years ago • 4 comments

We need to update and improve the installation documentation.

e.g. we don't cover cases for users who don't have an existing mysql or postgresql DB (or know how to install them)

Suggest we provide a 'complete' end to end setup guide for one particular platform (Ubuntu or CentOS) and also improve the other guides to include and reference these other setup stages.

Also need to provide a setup for Windows users as we are getting a lot more of them now

Hi, I just installed this, it was a bit of pain. I only managed it on a ruby rails VM from

http://www.turnkeylinux.org/rails

Simple improvements to linux guide needed.

The mysql was the least of the problems on existing debian server, the "bundle install" command failed so many times and I had to do some much to get over each step. It's the dependancies that are not clear enough, so a whole walk through would great.

Thanks for reporting. Yeah I do agree the installation documentation really needs fixing. Just finding time to get there is hard at the moment.

If it's of interest, Bitnami have just released a one-click installer on mac/linux/windows/cloud servers. You might want to take a look here: https://bitnami.com/stack/fat-free-crm/installer
