How to get this to work for android 14?

Or how can I get an app to open in freeform mode by default?

came here from ETA Prime's video? does this not work in Android 14? check out SmartDock, see if that works.

But smartdock don't replace android desktop mode like taskbar

what? define "replace"

Like if you connect your phone to a screen, depending on your system a UI can pop like Dex on Samsung phones or in my case a default thing on Lineage OS. Taskbar has the ability to replace this thing. So on a phone smartdock is basically useless.

The "default thing on LineageOS" is just AOSP desktop mode And Taskbar does not "replace it", it draws UI elements over it. SmartDock does similar thing.

He's right. SmartDock has a function to spawn on the last active display (hdmi-0 for example), however it's not a full homescreen such as taskbar. SmartDock will only give you the taskbar, but the desktop launcher will stay the same, whereas taskbar will replace the whole desktop and sideloads your default homescreen launcher. That's why I really hope somebody will continue this project 🙏

taskbar no longer works for me on Android 14. It just says cannot run in split screen mode. I'm not even using split screen mode on my phone. It used to work last week and nothing changed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

I just spent the week using this on my OnePlus 12 which is running Android 14 and saw 0 issues beyond what I've seen on other phones with lower Android versions. That doesn't mean it'll run on every phone that has Android 14, but at the very least it doesn't seem to be an issue affecting all Android 14 phones.

That likely does rule out the issue being OS related, though.

@Katsuyamaki What phone do you have specifically? If someone else with your phone can confirm it also stopped working for them, we'll be able to ensure the issue isn't just with your specific device.
