Feature Request - Show running apps on the taskbar

I am aware recent apps exists but that's not exactly what I'm looking for.

I would like to have only pinned and currently running apps appear in the taskbar. I did a bit of research before making this request and it looks like this might be possible.

Apologies if this has been asked already. I looked through all the issues and didn't see it but I may have missed it.
