PSA: Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics to be delisted from Steam on December 6, 2024

A huge chunk of legally obtainable ROMs are about to become unavailable for purchase, as the Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics bundle is going to be delisted from various platforms, including Steam, on December 6th.

See Sega's announcement here: https://support.sega.com/hc/en-us/articles/29776767664145-SEGA-Classics-FAQ

Note that other classic Sega titles are also going to be delisted on that date, such as the Dreamcast collection and the Sega XBLA arcade games.

it is really sad and i dont understand why? There wont be much cost to have it on steam and all licences should belong to them.

Hopefully they will re-release the games again in some shape or form. Maybe we'll see releases of their other systems as well, like the arcade games, Master System, Game Gear, Sega CD and 32X. Maybe we'll get emulated Dreamcast games instead of the PC ports, and even more Saturn games as well.

The Mega Drive collection and presumably the emulator that's being used were developed by a third party, so it might be due to licensing reasons after all. Sega also pulled the 16-Bit Sonic games from all stores when they released a new collection, so there's a chance they'll offer these titles again in a new package. The selection of titles that will be delisted feels a little arbitrary to me as well. The Sonic Adventure games are excluded, as well as the XBLA/PSN releases of Fighting Vipers.
