Problem: Accidentally deleted files
I like Notepad very much as it is simple, elegant yet effective.
The only big problem I have is, that I have over time accidentally deleted several notes.
To avoid this is I suggest these changes
- The Edit/Save-Button right next to the Delete-Button is screaming for trouble! It is only a question of time till one presses the wrong button.
Solutions: a) move the Delete-button as far away as possible from the Edit/Save-Button
b) or move the Delete-Button into the ... menu
- I use "Ask before save" in case I accidentally scramble my note. Therefore I always have a dialogue-box before saving.
The problem is, if I accidentally pressed delete instead of save I also get a dialogue-box (that should warn me). But as I expect the normal save-box (and do not really read attentively each time the text in the box) I will end up deleting the note.
Solutions: a) Change the colour of the Delete-message-box for example to red. Then one can clearly distinguish it (at a glance) from the Save-message-box.
b) Do not delete the note but add the prefix [TRASH] to its name, as a simple recycle bin. If the user then deletes a note with this prefix it will be really deleted.
- I use "Ask before save" in case I accidentally scramble my note. But most of the time I do not need to discard my changes but want to save. So the user has to do most of the times unnecessary work.
Solution: a) Instead of "Ask before save" add a command "Do not save the changes" to the ... menu. That way, in the rare case the note has been accidentally scrambled, one can choose this option. In all the normal cases (overwhelming majority), the note will be saved without having to confirm anything (faster).

True! Best notes app that regularly loses my notes.
Would be enough at least just to move 'delete note' trash bin icon from the top to pull-down menu where it can not be chosen occasionally.
