I think package.json in this chapter is somehow misleading. Although devDependencies is empty, most native module developers add react-native to it for intellisense and debugging modules. By using yarn add ../<local package> to add the local package, the node_modules will also be copied to the App. By that, I mean the added package will useDeviceEventEmitter or NativeEventEmitter from React Native in its node_modules. And module in this package will not receive any events from the native.
