Docs: Calibration files of common 360 cameras

Open mellinger opened this issue 5 years ago • 5 comments

Would it be possible to start documenting the calibration files of common 360 cameras? I'm a little head-scratchy when it comes to determining the orientation and origin of the cameras on my Insta360 Pro 2.

UPDATE: The NVIDIA VRWorks SDK has a tool that determines the calibration based on a set of photos. I ran a set from the Insta360 Pro 2 through them to see if I could match them to what the FDEP wants but they don't match up. If you can determine the proper values from them, it might be a nice way to get this data without having the camera specs? The output is attached.

@mellinger I wonder if this software has issues with fisheye lenses. We can help you run our calibration for your Insta360 Pro 2. From the looks of it all you'd need is an approximate radius from the center to one of the cameras, and using the specs on their website we can use RigSimulator to generate a new rig JSON file: https://github.com/facebook/facebook360_dep/blob/master/source/rig/RigSimulator.cpp

@mellinger Did you end up getting your Pro 2 calibrated? I'm trying to use the Calibration program from this project to get the calibrations, but the final error is always too high. @aparrapo do you have any recommendations for getting the error down? How close does the hardcoded rig need to be to the actual camera for the calibration to work?

@mellinger if you upload your images and calibration output(s) I can take a look and see if I can find a reason :)

Hi! I’m still here. @aparrapo I will upload this week, lmk if you want to take it over email.

Hi @mellinger - I have the feeling the files will be too large for email. Can you upload them to Dropbox instead (the free version should give you more than enough storage if you don't already have an account). If not you can sill try email.
