Grey screen appearing briefly before editor loads

Open eneerhut opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Description

I am seeing a grey screen briefly before the Rapid Editor loads. I only started noticing this in the last few days. Everything is normal otherwise, but it might appear to people on slower connections that something is wrong.

It's not a bug, it's just because I changed the background color of the document in this commit: 6533802

The reason for the change in background color is to support this drag behavior seen here: https://github.com/facebook/Rapid/pull/1497#issuecomment-2261578596

When the user makes the sidebar too small, we still want to let them see a shadow of it as they drag the resizer handle around - I did that by making the sidebar transparent. The transparent sidebar won't display any map underneath it, it will just show whatever color the document is - so I picked a color that transparent things would show up on top of (i.e. not black or white).

Before this change I think Rapid would just show a black or white screen for the few seconds until the UI is able to start rendering things.

I'm definitely open to changing it if it bothers people - I'm really surprised anyone noticed it.

Gotcha. Will keep this issue option to get feedback. My initial thought was that assets were struggling to load.
