Difference between "Exit" and "End" not made clear
On the review screen, there's an "Exit" button at the top, and an "End" button at the bottom of the page that (at least on my last two iPhones) is off-screen. The difference between these two functions isn't very obvious. (As I understand it, "End" brings the review session to a normal stop, saving your answers and scheduling reviews for the future, while "Exit" completely aborts the review session, forgetting any answers you gave and leaving kanji unreviewed and not rescheduled.) The two functions are similar but different, but their names don't make it terribly clear what the difference is. The "End" button being off screen is not particularly nice, as new users might not know to look for it. I would also imagine that the "End" function is the one users want more often than "Exit", but having "Exit" prominently displayed at the top while "End" is off-screen at the bottom also seems kind of backwards.
Yes I agree.
I'm really busy moving and starting a new job but I'm putting this on the "next" pile, as it's something relatively clear to improve once I can set some time aside.
I wonder if the exit
button could be removed entirely? My initial reasoning I suppose is that since the main navigation disappeared (full screen / "app" sort of layout), the user needed a way out... But maybe on mobile the user will just tap "backward" on the browser UX?
End should probably go up and be labeled "End Review" or something. A little popup to confirm to end review now or continue with X cards remaining would be a "nice to have".
No worries, take your time! It's a nice and easy improvement to make, but it's not that urgent or important.
