gfycat images on reddit load but don't play until you've switched to another tab and back

Description of the problem

Having an issue on reddit where I load (or reload) a page (any page, any sub apparently), and gfycat posts can be hovered over and Hoverzoom+ will display the first frame of the image, but will never starting play them in earnest. Once I switch to another Chrome tab and back, the issue is no longer present. Reloading the page resets the issue.

At first I thought it was just a matter of loading times for larger images, but you can see the same behavior even when you very quickly load the page, hover, switch back and forth, and hover again. By contrast, you can wait forever for a gif to start playing, and it will never happen unless you do the tab-switcheroo.

Steps to reproduce the problem (include image url here)

1. Load a reddit page with one or more posts that are gfycat images
2. Hover over one or more of these images
3. Switch to any other open tab in Chrome
4. Switch back to the reddit tab and hover over the same image(s)

OS version, extension version (Chrome only, Firefox is not supported)
