Update project with downstream fixes

I forked the project https://github.com/digitalmint/exo and merged in some of the PRS in this repo. I was attempting to address #819

So far the following are included:

I will try to keep this ticket up-to-date, with the changes I've made. I hope these can make it upstream @AlexCheema

I deleted my fork as there did not appear to be any interest in the project. If there is interest I would be open to starting a community fork.
