How can I tell if the data is being transferred via Thunderbolt or network WiFi? [If two Macs are connected through Thunderbolt while on the same local area network]

I know is not as simple as this BUT a cli/config file flag to set discovery to use only certain NIC's... either blacklist or whitelist. the auto discovery is cool to enable nodes to dynamically join but this would help to force traffic to only go over the thunderbolt mesh.
