Cannot compile in MAC OSX

autoreconf -is returns following errors

Makefile.am: error: required file './NEWS' not found Makefile.am: error: required file './AUTHORS' not found Makefile.am: error: required file './ChangeLog' not found autoreconf: /opt/local/bin/automake failed with exit status: 1

OSX version : 10.12.3
