Pencil freezes on save prompt
Operating system: OSX 10.11.6 (El Captain) Pencil version: Pencil 3.0.0 - RC1
Scenario:
- I hit close (as in close document) from the menu.
- A prompt dialog appears asking me if I want to save the file.
- I hit "Save" and Pencil starts saving but never comes out of it. The process is going on without saving and closing the file and my only option is to force close the application.
I think this could be related to issue #151.
In order to close Pencil I right clicked the application from the Dock and hit close. A new prompt appears in Pencil. I have to tab my way to "discard changes" and hit enter. Pencil is now closed but I guess any changes are not.
Operating system: Windows 7 (also tried on Window 8.1 & 10) Pencil version: Pencil 3.0.0 - RC1

Same here. Mainly freezes after adding Elements/Lines and creating connections followed by a immediatly save (Control+S).

Same here! Save using Ctrl + S freezes Pencil with waiting cursor. Window seems to be responding once Windows does not mark it as Not Respoding, even the close button seems to work, but no button inside window is clickable.
Checked that CPU hits 25% (on an I5) 1GB for memory consumption during this process.
Hi! This is great project. I begin to use it with version 3, beta version. I have same problem while using it on my ubuntu gnome 16.04 x64 box. Freeze aren't regular. I keep freeze sometime after 10 minutes, or after 1 minute, after run. Freeze are ever time after Ctrl+S or after menu/save/save as. Last operation's, after last good ctrl+S, are lost. Bye
Same here, Ubuntu 16.10 64bit. After trying to select font or trying to save a document it can freeze and only way to solve this is by killing the process and starting from last save. Not really a solution.
Is there any way we can help?
Your mileage may vary, but so far pencil-3.0.0rc2 has been behaving properly for me on windows 7 64bit
Please include the version that you are using. In 3.0.2 we expect that saving-cause-hang was fixed.
Hi! Refer to my post here. On ubuntu 16.04 all version, Pencil 3.0.4 has same freeze problem. Freeze are ever time after Ctrl+S or after menu/save/save as. Last operation's, after last good ctrl+S, are lost. Bye
@alessandroalb Could you please use the following procedure to open the application console log before saving: Menu > Tools > Developer Tools > Open Developer Tools When Pencil is frozen, please try to capture as much log as possible and post it here. Please provide also the file format that you are saving the file in.
Hi. When pencil is frozen, i can only close application, no other action is possible. Can take this After relaunch?

As I mentioned, the procedure to take the log is to open the console before it got frozen. To do this, please try to find a way in which you see Pencil tends to have the problem and repeat it with the console open and expect to re-produce the issue. Don't expect that you can do anything when it gets frozen.
Ok, i try, but i never know when software freeze, think is near to impossible. Sorry forse this Duong.

@dgthanhan Take log, after frozen. Hope is correct, text i take from pencil console. Idk if which you need. If not, please tell me what i can do and how. To save, i use file format epgz. Use Ubuntu 16.04-4 lts 64 bit with gnome 3 de. Ty for help

Morning and ty, good for this notice. Other information i have missed are relative to image linked on page. Sometime import image from web page or other source. Then save this image on Section My shapes. Then drag and drop from My shapes on project page. I see image and no problem. Sometime, not ever, after save project, if i close it, when reopen project, image are not linked, and i see only fault image. Is this mode correct to insert image on page ? Good job
Same problem with Pencil 3.0.4 on Ubuntu 14.04.5, freezes on save. Not sure when does this happens, but I think it may be a font related issue. If I add new objects or change they position or size I have no problems, but after I change the font on an object and I want to save then it freezes.

I'm having the same issue... after spending two hours creating a graphic. Yes, I should've saved sooner but, the only program in my 30+ years that didn't save (eg in background) is Illustrator CS6. In any case I took screenshots of what I could and am going to have to force-close. Am using 3.0.0
Update: Had to force-close. Lost everything. No fun.
Hello, I've also been having this issue with Pencil 3.1.1 running on Windows 7 64-bit. I found that running the program with compatibility mode set to Windows Vista seems to fix it.
