Dude, I just want to say thank you. This helped me soo much. I was trying to get this working as a USB webcam to open up my HDMI port for other sources because their website said that it would work with it. So I installed their software, restarted my computer and plugged it in. It then said my camera was incompatible or I needed to update the firmware. I checked, last firmware update was 2019 and I was pretty sure I had already updated it since then but I grabbed the file for a manual update anyway.

So put it in there, all is well.. Popped in my battery, it says the battery is too low. So I pop in a fully charged one, it quickly says the update failed then instantly turns off. From then on, there was no response. So I opened up NirSoft USBDeview to monitor my port as it was plugged in, no response. Tried different button combinations to no avail. But then I tried holding both the shutter and mode buttons and noticed that it popped up as a different type of device; APS. Looked that up to find that was the chipset.

So I scoured over video tutorials all repeating the same crap searching for someone mentioning a flash utility and low-level recovery option. Of course no one had any information on this. So I went back out searching again. APS showed up for a company making a printer flashing utility, downloaded it and checked it out to see if I couldn't force it through. It didn't accept .bins. I knew there was a solution just in grasp but without the programming knowledge, I thought I'd be at a loss.

Then I stumbled onto your thread and was skeptical at first but had nothing to lose. And Tapatalk typically has never led me astray so I read over it carefully and gave it a shot. The first time, it didn't work. But I tried again and it came back to life same as it ever was. So I just wanted to say thank you for solving this! I wasted a few hours on it but now I can at least have my camera back to a working state even though I couldn't get it work with USB, I'm glad I have a resource if it happens again!

For clarification to anyone wondering, mine is a GoPro Hero 5. I reread and noticed I failed to mention this. Happy holidays and thanks again, @evilwombat !
