I am not sure if you are going to merge it because it will break any code using your package.

First, thanks for your work on this! I appreciate the care you've taken in giving this further thought.

This definitely looks interesting, but it seems unreasonable to break existing library users. Can v2 be packaged in a subdirectory as its own independent module (e.g. stoppableListener.v2)?
