Set up mailing list mode / reply by email
I would like to see us turn on Discourse's mailing list mode so people can reply by email. This is the high level description / config around it: https://meta.discourse.org/t/configuring-reply-via-email-e-mail/42026
It looks like we can also use Discourse as our home base for organizing / planning / sponsorships as well with having email addresses mapped to groups. This is the article that talks about groups vs. categories https://meta.discourse.org/t/start-a-new-topic-via-email-e-mail/62977
@jpitts I am assigning this to you only because AFAIK you are the one with the keys. I don't think you should be the only one burdened with infra maintenance -- and in fact I'm going to open an issue around that.
Damn, I thought that the Forum was already in email list mode. I am terrible.
Ok thankfully this email list feature has been in place. It needs to be more clearly advertised, I will ping Chelsea who is working on an on-boarding / edu page for new Magicians.
This email list mode a setting that can be activated under your personal preferences. I will activate mine to see what it is like. I need to advertise this (if it actually works as advertised)
Steps for users:
- Click on your profile pic in the top right
- Click on the ⚙️gear to get to "Preferences"
- Click on “Emails” on the left nav, then scroll down
- Checkbox the “Enable mailing list mode”, then "Save"
Adding @chiselinc here, the previous comment ^^^ is what you might consider adding to the intro website, perhaps a guide to using the Forum. I'll X-Post this there too.
Specifically this is about enabling reply by email.
A bunch of training should be replaced by this as default. And then people can turn it off.
