Can a cross-browser extension be provided for Firefox, Chrome, and Chromium, along with a corresponding service, to store encrypted bookmarks? Thanks.

This may actually be a part of a broader cross-browser syncing service which also syncs other browser activities, all encrypted.

There are solutions that are solely dedicated to encrypted bookmarks and are also made to be self-hosted, e.g. xBrowserSync or floccus. As resources of devs are limited already, I would suggest to just focus on maintaining EteSync & Etebase and while doing that please don't forget about the ppl who want to self-host.
