Feature: Sync ical calendar to etesync calendar

Open snaggen opened this issue 7 years ago • 4 comments

I know it is possible to import an ical file to a etesync calendar, but I would like to have an option to sync them. For example, my kids activities are published as an ical calendar, if there is a change in their schedule it will automatically update my calendar. I currently use a special ical-sync app on my android for this, but then I just realized that I must then set it up on my desktop also... it would be nice to have etesync as a central point for all my calendars, including the dynamic ical calendars.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I was under the impression I already replied, but I guess I haven't. :|

It's an interesting idea. This is not the correct repo for this, but I'm not sure which one is, so will leave it here for now.

There are two possible approaches that come to mind:

  1. Have a daemon on a server/desktop/android app that pulls from the dav source and writes into etesync.
  2. Have the etesync server write it to a calendar using asymmetric encryption.

The second is more generic though it means the EteSync will know about the other calendars you're subscribing to, which is pretty bad. So I guess this leaves us with the former.

It shouldn't be too hard to write, though it's a low priority.

Wouldn't such a thing possible with vdirsyncer?

Unfortunately vdirsyncer has lost it's maintainer (maybe it gained a new one? No idea), so they are stuck on EteSync v1. :| Either way though, this ticket is about the web client, where it would be convenient to have ical support regardless.

Any update on this feature?
