Davbridge - calendar not available?

Open juriste opened this issue 4 years ago • 18 comments

I am unable to reliably modify my calendar but changes made elsewhere sync. In Thunderbird, I get the triangle with an exclamation point next to the calendar name and it indicates that the calendar is "momentarily not available".

I cannot create new events nor edit existing ones.

I have this issue on and off for a few weeks now, but now it seems to never work...

Davbridge - 0.30.7 OS - Mac OS 11.4 Mail client - Thunderbird 78.10.2 Tbsync - 2.21 Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV - 1.24

Thanks!

@juriste have you checked using netstat if the server is up and listening on that port?

quantumpacket avatar May 26 '21 16:05 quantumpacket

@quantumpacket, I am on a different machine today but with same versions of OS, dav bridge, thunderbird, etc. Same issue.

netstat reveals that there is no connection on port 37358 :( ... what should I do?

juriste avatar May 27 '21 14:05 juriste

@juriste Did you ever setup autostart for etesync-dav? If not, follow these instructions https://github.com/etesync/etesync-dav#macos

quantumpacket avatar May 27 '21 15:05 quantumpacket

@quantumpacket It is set up to autostart on both machines. I also restarted the dav bridge and the issue persists. (Thank you!!)

@juriste Please post the version of etesync-dav that you are using. Also, are you using v1 or v2? v1 is deprecated and you should be migrating to v2. https://www.etesync.com/user-guide/migrate-v2/

quantumpacket avatar May 28 '21 02:05 quantumpacket

@quantumpacket , I confirm that it is v2.0 (I do not host it myself - I use to the paid Etesync service.) Should I try uninstalling everything and setting up again...? (And thanks for your promptness!)

juriste avatar May 28 '21 11:05 juriste

@quantumpacket - now it seems to be working...and I did not change anything... !

juriste avatar May 28 '21 11:05 juriste

@quantumpacket - I typed too soon ... same issue. When trying to add or edit events, I get the same issues :-(

juriste avatar May 28 '21 11:05 juriste

@juriste Have you tried this without using Tbsync? What is your use-case for needing that addon? I have the ability to edit/add events, contacts, etc. and synchronize on TB without needing anything additional installed. Remove the "middle-man" in this case and see if it's the root of the problem.

See the README: if you enable SSL you need an extra step with TbSync: https://github.com/jobisoft/TbSync/wiki/How-to-use-TbSync-with-self-signed-or-otherwise-untrusted-certificates%3F

tasn avatar May 29 '21 07:05 tasn

I thought that might have been the case as well, but figured OP would get SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER instead of UNKNOWN_NETWORK_ERROR, and that setting for TbSync has been around since 2018 which would be odd for it to have been working all this time, unless something reset OP's settings across multiple machines. The issue also seems to be intermittent (which may just be the sync interval).

Is https://github.com/etesync/EteSync-4-TbSync still maintained?

quantumpacket avatar May 29 '21 15:05 quantumpacket

Or maybe thunderbird updated something and it broken how it's done in tbsync (they've been changing a lot recently).

EteSync-4-TbSync: the maintainer of TbSync was meant to be working on it. No progress recently. :|

@quantumpacket and @tasn - I am using Tbsync as it is recommended in the DavBridge materials https://github.com/etesync/etesync-dav#thunderbird (And I did do the SSL fix, too)

I removed the Tbsync layer and added the calendar via the standard Thunderbird interface. It downloads the information perfectly. But again I cannot consistently write to it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Is it possible the DB is corrupt?

Thank you again.

juriste avatar May 31 '21 12:05 juriste

I think tbsync is better (that's why it's recommended), or at least it was when this was written. Not sure why you'd think the db is corrupt. Got a message to support that? What's the exact error when it fails writing?

With normal Thunderbird interface, it just has "The calendar is momentarily not available". With the triangle with an exclamation point in it. Screen Shot 2021-05-31 at 8 23 44 AM

With Tbsync, it says MODIFICATION_FAILED

(The calendar is not set to read-only)

I should add that I can indeed log into the Davbridge https site at https://localhost:37358/.web/user/XXXX

When dismissing a calendar notification, I get the MODIFICATION_FAILED error. Screen Shot 2021-05-31 at 9 31 18 AM

Still getting this? Also curious if the latest version of ete, thunderbird, and using the new method without any addons still produces the error.

Hello, I know this is old but this describes the same problem I am experiencing.
Was there a solution found to this? I have tried using TBsync and the native CALDAV support that comes with Thunderbird and the error persists. I have also set etesync-dav to autostart. Currently, I am using the native Thunderbird CALDAV support and I get the same triangle icon the original poster mentioned, as per the recommendations for etesync-dav which encourage using the native support for Thunderbird versions newser than version 91.

Any help would be appreciated.
