Many duplicate calendar items on a shared calendar

Hey Tom- My wife & I each have our own EteSync subscription/account. She shares her calendar with me, and vice-versa.

Every once in a great while, I end up seeing one of her events on my calendar, duplicated many times. (I'm talking about dozens of copies of the event.) When I look at the calendar on her phone, there's only one copy of the event. The duplication is only happening on the device which is receiving the shared calendar.

We both have Pixel 3 phones with the stock image from Google, and the Google Calendar app. I'm currently running Android 12 beta with Google Calendar v2021.19.0-372815398, but this has happened to me several times on Android 11 and previous Calendar app versions.

My wife has never reported seeing duplicate copies of my events on her phone, but that certainly doesn't mean it hasn't happened. It just means she's never noticed it or told me about it. (For the most part, she doesn't really even know that she's using EteSync. ;))

I can instantly resolve the issue by going to her phone and removing my EteSync account from her calendar. Then I re-sync EteSync from my phone, which of course removes all of her calendar entries. Then I add my account back to her calendar from her phone, and again re-sync my phone. I will only have one copy of all events, even the ones that were previously showing as duplicate.

This duplication has happened when I've been a read-only member of her calendar, and also when I'm a full read-write member of her calendar.

And like I said, this happens every once in a while, and only to random events. I haven't seen any sort of pattern.

Update: I noticed last night that a different event from my wife's calendar is duplicated on my calendar. The event in question is a weekly recurring event, and is not new. When I initially did the steps mentioned previously (remove my account from her calendar, add it back, and re-sync), I know for sure that this event was only showing up once per week. Now, it shows up as two events every week. So it seems to have happened after the initial sync.

I'm not seeing duplication on any other events at this time. I spot-checked a few months of events and they all look good except for this one weekly event.

Previously, the event that was duplicated dozens of times was a single event, not recurring.

I have exactly the same issue. Two calendars shared by two other people respectively and this happens on both of them. It is quite rare though. In the Etesync log there is only a single event but there are two instances of it in the Android calendar store. If I edit the event from my phone then the change only occurs to one instance of the event on my wife's.
