New stat for molpy downs

Open LucidCrux opened this issue 10 years ago • 5 comments

I'm going to add a new stat for times molpied down used for prize unlocking (there are alternatives later game). Obviously there is no way to get the actual count, so I thought it might be worth it to make a guess based on the prizes a person has. So if anyone wants to come up with a function for that, cool. I'm not really that familiar the with current way things unlock (Aren't you doing the prize redo? you say. I know right?) If not it will require me getting a better hold on that stuff, which is fine, but never hurts to ask. Should we do a one time [enter times molpied down] prompt, too, or just tell people to do it with the console later on if they really care?

Anyways, since it's getting done now and before it makes it in game, I thought I would if people think there needs to be other considerations for the stat. Should there be some kind of minimum time played, np reached, etc, or similar metric that gets checked for it to count as a valid down? (So people don't just molpy down like 100 times in a row)

This might also be the time to front load for potential challenge downs or whatever, in case we add stuff later for molpying down with restrictions as noted in ...umm.. another thread, not gonna look it up right now. I'm not talking like I'm going to do anything major, but just in case I should consider anything when doing the basic one.

Well I am a very long way through the game and I Molpied down once (a long time ago, long long before prizes).

If you want to count them, I think there should be a minimum threshold to have reached. What this is I have no idea.

Regarding prizes to MDs: I avoided using the consumable prizes but I know others used them so maybe just over the number of MDs to get the prizes at the usual prize award rate would be a good starting point.

MD threshold: I can't really think of a good MD validity threshold as recovering from a MD for me was never a major loss of NP progress and with the current system I don't know if anyone deliberately MDed twice rapidly outside of the MD at NP 3/4 to unlock time travel scenario as my understanding is that doing so would just throw away bags of x, prizes and/or stuffs. I also don't know of anyone who would have MDed more than once after earning all the last tier prizes.

Not including Bag of Holding (which is a T0 Prize), and including each bag as part of the Tier they're awarded from, there are 9 T1 Prizes, 11 T2 Prizes, 8 T3 Prizes and 5 T4 Prizes, The minimum number of Molpy Downs to acquire all prizes is 14 (T1 => 2, 5, 8, 9; T2 => 2, 5, 8, 11; T3 => 2, 5, 8; T4 => 2, 4, 5). The maximum number is 18 (T1 => 2, 4, 6, 8, 9; T2 => 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11; T3 => 2, 4, 6, 8; T4 => 2, 4, 5).

In short, every Molpy Down, you get 2 extra Prizes from the Bags on top of what you've already collected. However, every Tier except 4 has a Prize that awards 2 Prizes as well, instead of the usual 1 Prize per normal Prize. So the minimum assumes that whenever you Molpy Down, you continually reload until one of the Prizes is the 2 Prize one.

Consumable prizes don't matter in this: if you use a Single Use Prize, a new Prize automatically unlocks. You do have to buy it again though, but there's always the chance that the Prize that unlocks is the 'Unlocks 2 Prizes' boost of that tier.

There is a spanner in the works though: GoatONG in T3. This Single Use Prize unlocks 0 Prizes when held, so getting it actually slows you down. So that 18 MDs maximum can be inaccurate, since it may cause you to only get 1 extra Prize during that MD.

Of course, a lot of this doesn't cover MDs when you didn't have enough stuff to activate the bags, or early MDs to get Time Travel or other toys. But I think the 'maximum' for however many prizes of your highest Tier would be a good baseline.

Thanks much TFMurphy, I'm sure that will prove useful. I'm not tackling an algorithm tonight because I doubt my brain is up to it (pulling an all nighter for reasons). So any math junkies are still welcome to work on it. Heck, even if I end up doing it, you are welcome to since mine will be subpar I am sure.

I am thinking what I will do for a check is just add a variable for the np they moplied down, and have it only count if they are like 5 more than that, maybe pop a warning if they aren't. Or maybe 3, for time travel reasons. I doubt cheating it is really going to be a big deal as far as the current unlocks go, but I'm just trying to future proof stuff as best I can.

Back in the old days the only way to get Time Travel was to MD which is why I did it eventually after about 300 NP.
