Create a page to host links for blogs

Open spzala opened this issue 4 years ago • 6 comments

In a etcd community meeting sometime back, we have decided that for third party blogs we will not host them on etcd.io because of maintenance issues. Instead, we will have a page created where we can provide a link to blogs for reference. @nate-double-u @Somoshree I think we don't have a such a page yet but it's good to create one. Let me know your thoughts or questions. Thanks!

I thought that we had decided the etcd.io blog was the place for these kinds of pages, removing them from the documentation proper (moving them out of the Platform section).

We had discussed the options in the Feb 11, 2021 community meeting, but it doesn't look like we recorded the decision. Maybe we can review the video and see what we said 😅

Here's where i think I got that idea, @ptabor proposed it in his comment here https://github.com/etcd-io/etcd/pull/12668#issuecomment-779665473

We discussed this on the last community meeting:

I understood (@spzala, @nate-double-u please check if I get this right) goes in following directions:

  • etcd wants to host such "How to style" documents to help our users
  • we recognize that it might be challenging to make sure such documents are kept up-to-data

Thus we are proposing:

  • hosting them in form of "dated" blog-posts in: https://github.com/etcd-io/website/tree/master/content/blog to be presented in https://etcd.io/blog/
  • Linking to them from the e.g. platforms/howtos page in the etcd doc.

I'm closing this PR, as it does not belong to this repo any longer. But please work with @nate-double-u on putting it in https://github.com/etcd-io/website

[edit; addition] Note: I think @ptabor is linking to the same Feb 11, 2021 meeting I referred to above.

The goal isn't to make new blog posts, or a new site, the goal is to get this platform info out of the main documentation set.

We already have a Additional community resources section at the end of the Community page. We could just community articles and blogs there (or under a subsection entitled "Articles", say). That's probably simplest to start off with.

Or, it might make sense to have a page under /community/, say one of:

  • /community/articles
  • /community/blogs
  • /community/resources

Thoughts?

Responded in a meeting last week - we will keep existing doc conversion to blogs, and new blog on etcd community work (announcements etc) but new or reposing of third-party blogs (how-to, 101 etc) will be provided with a link for reference.
