Google IoT core to be retired on August 16, 2023 (CA-273)

Open Jasperdg65 opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

I could find no mention or warning, so I want to name the elephant in the room:

In the smart outlet example is a link to a Google webpage explaining how to create key pairs. On top of this page the following warning is displayed on a yellow background: "Google Cloud IoT Core is being retired on August 16, 2023. Contact your Google Cloud account team for more information.".

So this is a dead end to me. Just enough to experiment on the coming 6 months, but a disaster if you want to have insight on your thousands of IoT devices in the field after that date.

Any suggestions where to look for an alternative? My criteria:

  1. Reliable (good up-time and not aborted for a long time to come)
  2. Secure (no one else can see my data and data is stored in Europe or in the Netherlands)
  3. Affordable (or preferably free)
  4. Espressif compatible (library available or included)
  5. Good dashboarding possibilities (perhaps reporting using MS Power BI)

Thanks for your suggestions!

@Jasperdg65 You can choose to use AWS IoT or Azure. Espressif also offers a complete IoT cloud solution called ESP RainMaker which is based on AWS.
