Mispronunciation in Spanish with the "SH" leters

Open Exink opened this issue 2 years ago • 5 comments

Hello there,

Well, it's my first time opening an issue for ESpeak-Ng, so let's see how it goes and if I'm doing it right.

I'd like to report that ESpeak-NG doesn't pronounce correctly the phonemes for the letters s h at the middle and at the end of words in Spanish. Maybe this is not quite a problem for everyday Spanish words, but if we want to read some foreign words (Fukushima, Satoshi, for example) the voice treats both letters like it where an s instead of an s h, so it reads Fukusima" instead of using the original pronunciation. The same thing happens in Korean all time, but maybe I should make a separate issue, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I know this can seem to be somewhat superflous, yet I wanted to talk about this anyways.

Thanks for reading and hopefully this can be fixed!

Hello, can you please tell me how you tell this tool that the text file contains spanish phrases? I tried something like

espeak-ng --voices=es -f hello.txt

But it reads it in English pronunciation

Try -ves instead of --voices=es

The reason for this is that in the rules for spanish, the h is silent: dictsource/es_rules:102: h // silent

Is there a better rule that would work for both spanish and foreign words? Adding each foreign with with an h to dictsource/es_list is not a realistic option.

Hello,

In order to read aloud any text in Spanish using ESpeak-Ng, you can simply go to the command promt and type in espeak-ng -v es "Spanish Text" or espeak-ng -v es-419 for Latin-american Spanish. Not sure how to use Mbrola yet, but that's the way to go for Espeak.

As a Spanish speaker myself, I don't think so. Having the 'h' be silent and sounding like 's' for the pair is correct for Spanish words like "deshacer".
