Pass parameters by URL and auto connect

Would be great to have the ability to pass 'User preferences' by URL and auto connect. I'm currently building a training management system and would like to be able to create channels on the fly for each session (without them having to manually type it).

I've had a look and can't see any way of doing it except for the last post in:
