Custom portals

Possible uses for custom interworld links (that don't present themselves as, e.g., linking books).

  • A long walk from one Cavern neighborhood to another
  • Magic teleporters unrelated to the standard portal theme
  • "Death" that drops you into an afterlife world instead of /panic
  • A scene change that needs to be from a global instance to a private instance

Note that some of these cases bypass the standard "examine portal, details in right-hand panel" view. They might be simple links. They might be code-triggered.

Therefore, we have to be careful.

  • Such links should always be uncopyable. (Or if they are copyable, they'll shed their custom nature and become normal portals).
  • Unless the customization is associated with the destination loc? Then any link to that loc, from your booklet or wherever, has the custom nature.
  • The onenter hook (when linking in) must exclude permission to link out. Avoid infinite loops.
