Family.ByCategory for families not just for project

Would be handy to have a Family.ByCategory that works in family environment, now it's just for projects. In some older versions it was working both in family and projects .. not sure why it was removed.

It would be very useful for filtering

well inside a family (the familyDocument) you can get/set the category, while Family.ByCategory is a way to get families by a specific category. In other words, it is two different things to work inside a family and a project, so nodes should not be named the same if they do different things. Family.ByCategory makes no sense inside a family.

Well that is exactly what it should do: to get families by a specific category that are nested inside a family. πŸ˜„ It's mostly for filtering the nested families that are inside a family. Now there is the node to get the nested families, witch is very nice.. but a node similar to Family.ByCategory would be a welcomed addition (as it used to work in families as well, in version 8046 at least)

In the new release, that is just released :-) ByCategory ByCategory.dyn.txt

This was surprisingly fast! Thank you for adding the extra nodes! πŸ‘ πŸ˜„

You are welcome... however, I am not sure if I was a bit too fast :-S maybe I should have kept the "nested" name for the nodes since the same nodes exist in FamilyType where I use the name All, ByName, and ByCategory for something else. Maybe I should consider using the name FamilySymbol which is the FamilyType in Revit API language... the types are the types you create in a family. But this means that FamilyType in β€œProject” should be renamed as well... it is a mess :-S

Yeah, I can imagine πŸ˜† .. you fix one thing, and 10 more show up

I will return the name til GetNested, GetNestedByName, and GetNestedByCategory from next release... that is the easy choice :-)

Great πŸ‘ Thank you for the heads up!
