Remind to score completed anime

Open respock opened this issue 9 years ago • 6 comments

Hello after recent update the series you are currently watching are not showing anymore.
I have a habit of scoring the series only after completing them so now i have to go to the history tab, double click on the last episode and score it. It's quite a bother. This one option, "give a score" after completing the series was a great feature. I'd love to have it back.

I have three options in mind:

  • Do nothing, because scoring anime is easier on Anime List page than from History page. People can sort their list by Score or Last Updated, then fill missing values by clicking on the Score column or using a keyboard shortcut such as Ctrl+7. It's even possible to do this in batch by selecting multiple items.
  • Reintroduce the previous feature to Now Playing page, under a different header. It's easy, but I don't quite want to take this route before turning Now Playing page into an actual dashboard, which is probably not going to happen until v2.0.
  • Add an option like "Remind me to score completed anime". I've avoided this since the early days of Taiga for various reasons, and I still feel the same. However, it may be okay if it's just a one-time reminder (i.e. a balloon tooltip like episode notifications) and not something more obtrusive (i.e. a popup dialog asking for a number).

Personally, I’m a believer in contextual UI – that is, the interface displayed to the user should change so that (in a perfect world) what the user needs is right there exactly when they need it. This isn’t possible in reality since users differ, but I feel that presenting the option to score shows upon completion is closer to the ideal than the alternative. I’d also add that each entry should expire after about a week, when it becomes obvious that the user isn’t all that interested in assigning a score; this gives a good balance between “there when you need it” and “gone when you don’t”.

If you’re interested in eventually adapting the Now Playing page into a dashboard there isn’t any harm in setting a precedent for it. In my opinion that’s just the nature of software – if you want it to ship in your lifetime, it can’t be perfect to start with. Until then, we make do with compromises.

That’s my two cents.

well the thing is that after i started using Taiga, i hardly visit MAL anymore. Well only for recommendations / related stuff which is not present in Taiga for obvious reason - the MAL DB. As for your recommended options, I'd be really glad to have the third solution - an option in settings, even unchecked by default to score anime upon completion. Nothing really fancy - but usable.

And thank you for your continuous support and care, you're one of the best devs I had a contact with. Cheers!

Hi, not sure if this one exactly has been covered but how about a menu option (under tools possibly) that will "show anime needing ratings" by going to a separate "tab" showing completed animes with no rating. This would work well in my opinion.

This actually is something that I feel is missing after I made the switch from MALUpdater. Adding a checkbox somewhere that reminds that to you would be the solution I think.

+1 I miss from MAL updater the option to have prompt reminder to rate series at end
