Mono HE-AAC source decodes to stereo

Describe the bug Decoding a mono HE-AAC source produces stereo output.

To Reproduce

  1. Encode mono audio to HE-AAC using FDK-AAC encoder.
  2. Check with mediainfo that the HE-AAC is indeed mono:
Channel(s)                               : 1 channel
Channel layout                           : M
  1. Decode mono HE-AAC to WAV or FLAC using fre:ac.
  2. Check channel number with mediainfo:
Channel(s)                               : 2 channels
Channel layout                           : L R

Expected behavior Mono HE-AAC decoding to mono

System

  • OS: Arch Linux
  • CPU: Intel Xeon, Sapphire Rapids, Q0KG engineering sample
  • RAM: 256 GB
