@jpsim do you know why we are not skipping android_release_artifacts CI job here? I can take a look too if you do not know off top of your head

Because release artifacts are built on every PR now to validate that the release automation doesn't break. Cutting an actual GitHub Release and uploading those artifacts to it is only done when pushing new tags though.
