Fix segfault in kiva.tests.test_qpainter_drawing

For some reason, the changes introduced by #392 resulted in segfaults for two text-related unit tests for the QPainter backend on linux.

The probably can be reproduced locally, so if somebody can spend enough time investigating we should be able to figure out what's wrong.
