Album view

Considerring having many albums it would be great if an overview of all albums can be seen.

Perhaps also allow them to be sorted by year. I my current set up I have a folder structure like this:

  • 2023
    • 2023_01 some album
    • 2023_02_23 some album
    • ...
  • 2022
  • ...

Having all those uploaded to ente seems to be quite hard to get an overview of.

I totally agree. I have a similar folder structure and I end up with hundreds of albums and all I can do is LEFT<-->RIGHT scroll to find them or search.

Perhaps if Ente allowed for search to specify what is being searched. (file name, date range) and then show results as a grid of albums. search for "2018" in the album name field and it would should all albums in a grid with names containing "2018".

Allow the search result set to be "sticky" so you could go in an out of the resulting albums without having to reissue the search.

Saved search won't cut it. It will always include things that are not correct like IMG_2022

I would prefer more an albums by year option. So perhaps allow to view all albums that contain pictures in year x. That would be a great feature as it would take away the work from the user to having to sort that out.

Yeah I was typing something similar. I feel if you had a grid view of all albums containing pictures created in a given year with breaks between years, that would be a start.

The nearly infinite scroll right/left to find albums is very impractical when you have hundreds of albums.

Hey, you can currently search for years (like "2009") to view all photos within a year.

That said, I agree that a better way to navigate albums is a must have. Search history would be a step in that direction. But in the long term we do need a better way to view all albums (a grid perhaps) and navigate / filter through them purely with keyboard shortcuts.

I know, but those would be insanely much. I would like to view all albums in a year to quickly find back an event or something. Not the entirety of all photos that year.

I would only add that albums can be made of images from multiple months and/or years, like an album of little johnny from birth to high school, or something like that.

Thus, a cross-year album should appear multiple times (in different years), if you broke out the album list by year.

I don't think there's anything wrong with "best pictures of Johnny" album appearing in different years, just noting that it must be considered.

In my ente desktop app, I have this option that shows all albums. Was that not there when this issue was created?

Yes, that down arrow will show all albums, but I have 923 albums.

Those albums were created by the import process from photos I have on my hard drive in various folders ... tons of folders ... as I have been a photographer for decades. Even with that down arrow, it is pretty brutal to scroll down through 900+ albums to find the one album you might be looking for.
